  Orthodontist

Dr Helen Jones BDS LDSRCS MFGDP (UK) is our resident orthodontic and dentofacial orthopaedic specialist offering, on referral, a comprehensive range of treatment for tooth crowding and jaw development deficiencies. The treatment available extends equally to adults and is usually carried out without the extraction of permanent teeth, resulting in improved facial appearance, better function and beautiful smiles in a relatively short period of time.

Helen is a Specialist Practitioner registered with the General Dental Council, a Member of the British Orthodont ic Society, the American Association for Functional Orthodontics and of the World Federation of Orthodontists. She also works with Ms Elaine Seymour DO who is a cranial osteopath whose treatment speeds the orthodontic treatment and offers a total body assessment.

Mr James Grant trained at Guy’s Hospital and qualified as a dentist in 2001. He became a member of the faculty of dental surgery (MFDS) in 2003. Following postgraduate orthodontic training at the Eastman Dental Hospital, James gained an MSc in orthodontics in 2006 and qualified as specialist orthodontist (MOrth) in 2007.

His philosophy is to use both removable and fixed orthodontic appliances to gently guide teeth into the best possible position. What he enjoys most about his vocation is helping his patients to achieve beautiful smiles with their natural teeth. He loves to treat people of all ages and is happy to use aesthetic braces (which are less visible and tooth coloured) and Invisalign®. He is committed to continued professional development and in keeping up with all the latest developments in his field. He has lectured on orthodontics both nationally and internationally.

James is married to Ruth and they have two young children, Ed and Kiriana.

Splint therapy

About eighteen months ago I began to experience headaches when I woke in the morning and I often would wake in the night with earache. I had extraction orthodontic treatment in my teens, some thirty years ago, which resulted in my front teeth being pulled backwards.

On mentioning this to my dentist, I was fitted with a splint, which I wore at night  only for six months. In this time I did not suffer with either symptom and then I stopped wearing the splint. The earaches and headaches returned again after two months so I have returned to wearing the splint one or two nights a week, and this helps me to remain symptom free.

Age 45 years

I was referred to the dentist in the early 1990's with severe facial pain and spasm. I was in constant pain, unable to sleep, concentrate, or maintain a normal life. My weight had plummeted to 7st 10lbs. (I am 5ft 7 ins) and life was pretty miserable, despite enjoying a loving and supporting family.

I was consuming the maximum dose of Nurofen daily, having not taken analgesics throughout my life before. Within days of having a splint fitted I was free from pain and began to sleep.

Through the following year my general health improved, the pain and spasm diminished, my energy levels returned and life was certainly worth living. I still wear a splint at night and do not have any facial pain. I had tremendous support from the dentist and the day I walked into her practice was a lifechanging experience for the better.
